DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks have regularly been at the forefront of cryptocurrency acceptance and partnerships in the NBA. Now, the organization is expanding its crypto footprint even further. Wednesday, the Mavericks announced a partnership with Voyager Digital.

Voyager Digital, founded in 2018, is one of the fastest-growing, publicly traded cryptocurrency brokerage platforms in the United States. The partnership is an exclusive, five-year agreement that makes Voyager the team’s first cryptocurrency brokerage and international partner.

“We find it to be a perfect fit for our Mavs fans and Mavs fans of all ages,” Dallas Mavericks Governor Mark Cuban said at a press conference Wednesday. “We want this to be a dynamic partnership to engage all of Dallas. I think, working together we will be at the forefront of innovation. We’re going to come up with new ways to introduce Mavs fans to cryptocurrencies.”

As part of the deal, Voyager also receives naming rights to the Mavs Gaming Hub, the official gaming venue of the Mavericks’ NBA 2K League team and venue that hosted Wednesday’s press conference. The official announcement of the Hub’s renaming will be later.

“What we think that we’ll be able to deliver—and it starts here, it starts in Dallas—is teaching people about decentralized finance, cryptocurrencies and nonrefundable tokens,” Voyager Digital CEO and Co-founder Steve Ehrlich said. “We really want to bring that to the community. We’ll start that now. And some say, ‘Why the Mavs?’ Because of Mark and the leadership he brings to the NBA when it comes to cryptocurrencies.”

In 2019, the Mavericks became one of the first teams in the NBA to accept Bitcoin as a form of payment for merchandise and game tickets. Earlier this year, the organization announced that it would begin accepting dogecoin as well. Bitcoin and dogecoin transactions are processed through BitPay, the world’s largest cryptocurrency payment provider.

Voyager offers crypto traders a secure way to trade over 60 different kinds of digital assets and earn annual rewards. With their partnership, both the Mavericks and Voyager hope to make cryptocurrency more accessible through education and fan engagement.

“We understand that there’s a lot of hype, a lot of discussion behind it, but most people don’t understand the fundamentals behind it,” Cuban said. “we’re really going to try and bring that level of education to our fans and to our joint customers. I think we’re going to extend this far deeper than just Mavs fans. I think Voyager is going to be a leader among sports fans and crypto fans around the country.”
